As AI systems take on more consequential decisions - who gets a loan, who gets flagged at a border, whose CV reaches a hiring manager - the question of accountability becomes urgent. When something goes wrong, who is responsible? The developer, the deployer, the organisation that procured the system, or the algorithm itself? Right now, the answer is often unclear, and that ambiguity benefits those with the most power in the chain.
